The photo on the left obviously is using the "rule of thirds" while the photo on the right simply has the object of focus in the center of the picture. I agree that photos that use the "rule of thirds" are more interesting to look at, maybe only because it is new or it might be the effect of the technique.
Yes this is a very good example of the Rule of Thirds rules!!
